"FROM SEED
TO SUPPER"
Growing food and preserving it for winter was a way of
life for generations. "From Seed to
Supper" takes you into a
mountain garden where heirloom
vegetables are grown then canned by loving
hands, and stored in an old-fashioned
"Can House".
From there you'll visit 100 yr-old
Grist Mills in the Great Smoky Mountain
National Park still grinding corn with water power.
See Grandma's cornbread
cooked on an open hearth fire
in a 125 yr-old log cabin.
Walk with Ila Hatter and a National Park Historian
through the Mountain Farm Museum's garden while
varieties and multiple uses of corn and sorghum cane
are shown. Watch the actual cane grinding and
"cooking off" into lip-smacking
Sorghum Syrup. Enjoy the laughter of children
as they re-create the fun of an old-timey
Taffy Pull.
This is a
delightful video - the newest episode of the 20 year
running UNC-TV/PBS series "FOLKWAYS". A gllimpse of a
simpler way of life that was lived close to the land.
Truly a
video you'll enjoy sharing with family and friends!!!
