Mountain Talk is a unique portrait of the language and life of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, where individuality and diversity still reign. The true story of Appalachia is told through hundreds of candid interviews and performances.

The people of the Southern Appalachian Mountains tell the story of their own cultural evolution, revealing the quick wit, good humor, and rugged perseverance that have sustained them for centuries. Finding its soul in the unpretentious spirit of mountain hospitality, Mountain Talk was recorded over three years in kitchens, sitting rooms, back porches and country stores in Western North Carolina. Songs, stories and candid interviews convey the shared sense of place that continues to define the mountain people even as their culture seems to be increasingly absorbed into the modern world.
